Dear America,
The USA is my favourite place to visit in the whole world. You have always been a great country but you can be even greater. I want to remind you that greatness is not just about military dominance or economic dominance. Greatness is about the way a country treats its citizens.
A few suggestions:
Guns do kill people - weekly mass murder is not great
Healthcare is a human right not socialism – you seem to like Ireland/United Kingdom/Canada – we all have variations of a National Health Service – we all bitch about it but it works most of the time – I can attest to that. Last time I checked Ireland and the UK and even the Canadians were not socialist - you can make healthcare great
Insulin does not need to cost $400 per month in the USA when it is less than 20% of that in Canada or Mexico – that is not great
Having more people in prison than any other country in the world is not great – yep the USA has 22% of the worlds prison population and only 5% of the worlds population
Law enforcement shooting your own citizens, especially when unarmed - that is not great
Executing mentally ill people – that is not great
Most of your population came from immigrant families – demonising immigrants even if you disagree with their motivation is not great
And to our friends in America I am sure as an outsider you can tell us a few more uncomfortable untruths about Ireland and the UK….
